The Hush Post: Indian automobile giant Mahindra and Mahindra launched the 2018 XUV500 Facelift in India, with the base model costing Rupees 12.32 lakhs.

The SUV comes in 5 diesel variants, with one optional variant. The updated model of the car, which was first launched in 2011, comes in both diesel and petrol variants, with manual or automatic transmission option.


The car features a more powerful mHawk155 diesel engine that makes 155 bhp. The diesel and petrol variants come with a 2.2 litre, four cylinder mHawk diesel engines which feature the 6th generation electronically controlled variable geometry turbocharger (EVGT). The diesel engine delivers 153 BHP at 3,750 RPM, with a peak torque of 360 Nm at 1,750-2,800 RPM. The petrol engine delivers 138 BHP at 4,500 RPM, with a peak torque of 320 Nm at 2,000-3,000 RPM. Transmission options include a six-speed synchromesh manual gearbox, and an Aisin sourced six-speed automatic unit.

The exterior now includes restyled front and rear portions. In the front, larger grilles with chrome surrounds and chrome inserts in the centre can be seen. They are flanked by a pair of new and larger projector headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights. The front bumper now has a bigger central airdam and chrome accents for the tear-duct-shaped foglamps.

Buyers can now also choose from optional 18-inch alloy wheels for the top end W11 trim. The rest of the models get 17-inch wheels.

Talking about the interiors, the top-end model features revised seats upholstered in quilted tan and back two-tone leather. The rest of the interior features a new dual tone black and grey treatment. The centre of the dashboard is taken up by a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS, USB and Bluetooth. The system also includes Android Auto, Connected Apps and Ecosense.

The XUV500 also includes an electric sunroof with anti-pinch, logo projection lamps on ORVMs, push-button start/stop, keyless entry, and rain sensing wipers. The upgraded model also comes with a 6-way power adjustable driver seat, fully automatic climate control, steering wheel with tilt and telescopic function, electrically operable ORVMs.

With regards to safety, dual airbags and ABD with EBD are included as a standard offering for all variant and six airbags (including side and curtain) on the top-end model, along with ESP with rollover mitigation and hill hold and hill descent control.
