It was unbelievable for a Mumbai mother when she saw her domestic help sexually assaulting her four-and-a-half-year-old son. The incident occurred at the family’s Malabar Hill residence.

The shocked mother, who is a lawyer, raised the issue with her husband and in-laws but they refused to believe her. The family members even allowed the accused domestic help to continue her work at the house.

The mother then approached Mumbai police and lodged a complaint against the accused and her entire family for ignoring the matter.

According to the Times of India report, Malabar Police has slapped the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 on four persons, including the accused domestic help. The three others are the victim’s father and his grandparents.

The report says the woman saw the accused domestic help inappropriately touching her child last week. Afterwards she spoke to her son who narrated the entire incident to her. The woman then took up the matter with her husband and in-laws who did not believe her. The family members even did not take any action and allowed the help to continue her work at the house despite the serious allegations against her.

Later on June 4, the mother went to the police and lodged a case not only against the abuser but also the entire family.

Police have now recorded the statement of the minor boy as well to support the charges.

The POSCO Act makes it mandatory to file a case against the accused in case of sexual assault on a minor and failure to do so invites imprisonment.
