Bungalows of Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi to be demolished

Chouksi, nirav modi's bungalows to be demolished

The Hush Post: Bungalows of fugitive diamond traders and Punjab National Bank scam accused Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi will be demolished soon, as per the orders of the Maharashtra Environment minister.

Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam gave the demolition orders of illegal building and bungalows in different parts of Raigad including Alibaug, after presiding over a review meeting at the state secretariat . Raigad Collector Vijay Suryawanshi was given directions to follow suit.

Talking to the media, Suryawanshi said the government will go ahead with the demolition process after taking permission from the Enforcement Directorate which has attached the bungalows of Modi and Choksi as part of its probe into the multi-crore PNB scam.

The Bombay High Court had recently pulled up the state government for not taking action against the illegal buildings which have come up in in the adjoining coastal district Raigad of Maharashtra, including the famous Alibaug area where many film stars and celebrities own big bungalows.

121 “illegal” bungalows, including those built by Modi and Choksi, were identified in Alibaug, a coastal town popular as a weekend getaway for Mumbai residents.

Many building owners have already taken a stay order on demolition, including Mehul Choksi. The stay orders have been granted either by district courts or the Bombay High Court. “The government will request the court to vacate the stay granted on the demolition of illegal bungalows of Choksi and others so that we go ahead and raze them,” the collector said.

The bungalows have come up allegedly in violation of Coastal Regulation Zone norms and also do not conform to their sanctioned plans, Kadam told media persons.

“Some of these illegal bungalows belong to Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and others. Today, I have asked the Raigad Collector to demolish the illegal bungalows of Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi,” said Kadam.

Nirav Modi’s bungalow is located in Kihim village, while that of Choksi is in Awas village.
