What Internet can do to a common man like a wayward singer on a railway platform is now a household story in the form of Ranu Mondal’s real life story.
More than a million people have heard her singing Lata Mangeshkar’s Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai on a raliway platform where a 26-year old engineer heard her sing and posted it on facebook. Slowly and steadliy, it got viral. Himesh Reshammiya has already recorded a song with her for his next film. Now, it is rumoured that actor Salman Khan has bought her a Rs 55 lakh house in Mumbai.
In two weeks, Ranu, in her late 50s has become India’s latest internet sensation. Moreover, she also got to meet her daughter after a long time after she saw her mother on the internet.
Numerous portals and social media pages are flooded with her videos where she can be seen singing Lata Mangeshkar’s chartbusters one after another with effortless ease.
“It was a chance encounter,” Atindra Chakraborty, who first heard Ranu singing a Mohammed Rafi number at Ranaghat station, told India Today.
“I was hanging out with my friends at a tea stall on platform No 6. A Rafi song was playing in the radio aloud. Suddenly I heard the lady humming to the tune, as she sat on the platform floor. I recorded her song on the mobile,” Chakraborty said.
