Salman Khan, the 52-year-old actor has topped Forbes India’s 2018 list of richest Indian celebrities for the third consecutive year. On the back of ₹253.25 crore earned through his films Race 3 and Tiger Zinda Hai, television appearances and brand endorsements between October 1, 2017, and September 30, he has become the country’s highest paid celebrity.
India cricketer, Virat Kohli is at second position with total earnings of Rs 228.09 crore. Akshay Kumar follows next with a total gross of Rs 185 crore.
Deepika Padukone has become the first woman to feature in the top 5 with Rs 112.8 crore earnings. Former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is fifth after being ranked in Rs 101.77 crore.
Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn and Sachin Tendulkar follow next in the top 10 bracket.
The two celebrities who have slipped majorly through the ranks this year. Shah Rukh Khan has dropped to No 17 from last year’s second position with Rs 56 crore. Priyanka Chopra too has slipped from No 7 last year to No 49 with Rs 18 crore in 2018. Since Shah Rukh had no theatre release between October 1, 2017, and September 30, 2018 (the period under review), his earnings (Rs 56 crore) came largely from his businesses and advertisements.
According to Forbes, the top 100 celebrities together earned Rs 3,140.25 crore this year, 17% per cent more than last year’s Rs 2,683 crore.
However, this year, only 18 women—including actors Alia Bhatt, Anushka Sharma, Taapsee Pannu, Nayanthara and ace shuttler PV Sindhu—have made it to the list. Last year, their number was 21.
