Underworld don Chhota Rajan and five others have been sentenced to eight years of imprisonment by a special court in Mumbai today in a 2012 extortion and attempt to murder case.
According to reports, the court had convicted them under the Arms Act. Apart from it, the court has asked Chhota Rajan to pay a fine of Rs five lakh.
Earlier, the special court judge AT Wankhede convicted six of the accused under various sections of the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in the hotelier BR Shetty case. Shetty was reportedly shot at in Andheri when he was going to meet his friend.
After his arrest in Indonesia in the year 2015, Rajan is currently lodged in Tihar jail in Delhi after his deportation to India.
