Spiritual guru Dada Vaswani passes away in Pune a month short of his 100th birthday

The Hush Post: Dada JP Vaswani, spiritual leader and head of the Sadhu Vaswani Mission, died in Pune today morning, just a month ahead of his 100th birthday.

“0901hrs IST July 12 2018, on sacred Guruvaar day, our Beloved Revered Dada J.P. Vaswani passes on, from the seen to the unseen. Ever-loving, ever-giving, may he continue to bless us from the beyond,” the mission tweeted.

Vaswani had been admitted to a private hospital in Pune for the last couple of days. “He had been discharged on Wednesday night,” one of the mission members said.

The mortal remains of Vaswani have been kept at the mission for followers to pay their last respect.

Dada Vaswani had shared platform with the likes of Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul II, Dalai Lama among others.

The mission was planning a big celebration on Vaswani’s 100th birthday in August. Dada Vaswani’s birthday, August 2, is celebrated as a Global Forgiveness Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was expected to attend his 100th birthday function.

Dada Vaswani was born on August 2, 1918, in Hyderabad in Pakistan’s Sindh province as Jashn Pehalraj Vaswani. His father was a teacher there. Vaswani was a brilliant student, but he gave up a career in academics later to follow in the footsteps of his uncle and guru, Sadhu T L Vaswani, who had set up the charity organisation.

He was the head of the Pune-based Sadhu Vaswani Mission, a non-profit organisation involved in social work and charity.

Acclaimed as a humanitarian, philosopher, educator, orator and non-sectarian spiritual leader, lakhs of people followed his sermons on Indian spiritual TV channels and in seminars and talks all across the globe. He also promoted vegetarianism and animal rights.
