A major fire broke out at a spinning yarn mill on RK road near Cheema chowk in Ludhiana. The mishap took place on Sunday afternoon.
The factory—RK yarn mill—was shut but the owner was present at the premises. However, he managed to escape.
Since there was only one way to enter the mill, firemen were facing a challenging time attempting to extinguish the fire.
Around 30 firemen were deployed to control the fire.
Fire station officer Srishti Nath Sharma said that the fire started at 12.30 pm. It could take a few more hours before it can be controlled.
More than 40 fire tenders have already been used in the operation. The factory did not have fire safety arrangements in place, and the owner did not have a NOC from the fire department.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh orderded a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
“I have directed DC Ludhiana to look into the reasons behind the fire that broke out at RT Woollen Mills today. Luckily there have been no casualties. The fire department took prompt action and prevented the fire from spreading and causing more damage,” he said in a tweet.
