Malayalam actress Manju Warrier was among the people who were stuck in Himachal Pradesh due to incessant rains and floods. The actress was in Chatru of Lahaul and Spiti district shooting for her upcoming movie. She was accompanied by director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan and the film crew. About 200 people, including the 30-member crew, were stuck at Chatru.
Manju Warrier managed to call her brother Madhu Warrier using a satellite phone on Monday night. The call lasted for a mere 15 seconds but was enough to raise the alarm.
“She was asking for help. The food supplies there are running out, they have food for only one more day. She didn’t tell me much as it was only a 15-second call asking for help,” News 18 quoted Madhu as saying.
Madhu in turn apprised Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan who informed Chief Minister Jairam Thakur of the crew’s plight.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and the local administration jumped into action and the crew were rescued and brought to Manali on Tuesday.
The film crew was in Chatru for the past three weeks. There had been no communication with the crew ever since because of no signal or internet connectivity.
Manju Warrier is known for her work in Malayalam films like Thooval Kottaram, Sallapam, Summer in Bethlehem, Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu, How Old Are You? and Lucifer.
