The deceased has been identified as Ramchandra Yadav (70). The incident was reported on Thursday night. The deceased was the father of a BJP worker Tej Narayan Yadav who had renamed Bhadwa Chowk as Narendra Modi Chowk.

The Sadar police have arrested three persons in connection with this attack. The arrested people include Dilip Mahto (32), Devendra Kumar Yadav (22) and Ramsevak Yadav (45). They had been named in the FIR lodged by Tej Yadav’s wife Shushila Devi at the Sadar police station on Friday.

However, the police have attributed the attack to an old land dispute between Tej Narayan Yadav’s family and their relatives, who are said to be supporters of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s party RJD. The police have denied reports doing the rounds on the social media that the attackers wanted to rename Modi Chowk as Lalu Chowk.

As per police Tej Narayan Yadav runs a tea stall at Bhadwa Chowk. He had put up a board at the intersection, announcing its renaming as Modi Chowk in 2016. Tej had had a heated argument with four youths near his shop around 8pm on Thursday. Hours later a dozen armed people attacked his house and his father was killed in this attack.
