Besides, Weathermen forecast that strong winds exceeding 80 kilometres per hour will also hit the region in next couple of hours

The Hush Post: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday warned that the national capital Delhi and the surrounding areas falling in the National Capital Region (NCR) will witness thunderstorm with strong winds and rain on Saturday evening. The Met Department has advised the people to stay indoors if possible, a report said.

Strong winds exceeding 80 kilometres per hour will also accompany the thunderstorm in the next few hours, the Met prediction said.

“Thunderstorm with rain would occur over many places of Delhi and Mahendragarh, Kosli, Gurugram, Manesar, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, Noida and Greater Noida by evening,” the Met Department said.

The minimum temperature this morning was recorded at 26.4 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature is likely to touch 41 degrees Celsius.

“It was partly cloudy sky in the morning and rains or thundershowers are likely to occur towards the evening,” an IMD official was quoted as saying.

Delhi was hit by a massive dust storm recently, uprooting trees and disrupting power supply. It was the second such storm to hit Delhi and NCR this week. On Sunday, violent dust storm, followed by rain and lightning had toppled walls and uprooted trees throughout the national capital. Two people were killed in Delhi and 18 were injured in the storm and one death was reported from Ghaziabad.

Earlier in May, thunderstorms and lightning hit five states killing over 100 people, injuring hundreds, uprooting trees and flattening houses.
