MHA tells all states, UTs to strengthen security for April 10 Bharat Bandh

MHA advisory stresses all the DMs and SPs be made personally responsible for maintaining law and order situation

The Hush Post: In view of Bharat Bandh call given by some organisations on Tuesday (Apirl 10), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked all the states and Union Territories (UTs) in the country to step up security and take the needed precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incident.

Notably, after the April 2 Bharat Bandh, a call for that had been given by various Dalit organisations in support of reservation, now some general category organisations have given call for Bharat Bandh on April 10 to protest caste-based reservation.

Tuesday’s bandh call has been given through the social media, apparently to counter the April 2 bandh organised to protest alleged dilution of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) Act. The April 2 bandh had witnessed violence at a large scale, Times of India reported on Monday.

In an advisory issued on Monday, the MHA asked the states and UTs to issue prohibitory orders and if it is felt necessary, and increase police patrolling in all sensitive localities to avoid any loss of life or damage to property, the report said.

The MHA advisory stated that all the district magistrates (DMs) and superintendents of police (SPs) be made personally responsible for ensuring that the law and order situation remains firmly under control in the areas falling under their jurisdiction.
