The Hush Post, Khanna: The Khanna police claimed to have arrested four alleged liquor smugglers in three separate cases and claim to have seized 475 cases of smuggled whiskey from them.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khanna Navjot Singh Mahal said that the smuggled liquor was being taken in a truck which had the registration number of Uttar Pradesh. The arrested persons have been identified as the truck driver Raj Kumar, a resident of Kurushetra in Haryana.
SSP Mahal said that the accused Raj Kumar was arrested by a police party at a naka set up at near Daheru village on the GT Road on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The police stopped the abovesaid truck after receiving a secret information about the liquor being smuggled in it. The truck driver, Raj Kumar, when questioned gave in and confessed that he had broght this liquor from Amritsar and was taking it to Moradabad in UP.
From his truck, the police have seized 425 boxes of smuggled whiskey of different brands. Further interrogation of the the accused truck driver is on. the SSP said.
Similarly, in two more cases the police seized 50 boxes of smuggled liqour and arrested three more persons.
Separate cases have been registered against the arrested persons under the provisions of the Punjab Excise Act, the Khanna SSP added.
