58.5% growth in Foreign Tourist Arrivals on e-Tourist Visa in January as compared to last year

The Hush Post, New Delhi: Not only the illegal immigrants, but Bangladeshis top the list of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in India. During January 2018, 16.36 per cent of the tourists coming to India were Bangladeshis. Besides, there has been an increase of 8.4 per cent in the overall Foreign Tourist Arrivals in January this year as compared to January 2017. Under e-Tourist visa, in January this year there has been an excellent growth of 58.5 per cent as compared to January last year.

Bangladeshi tourists are followed by the nationals of USA (14.10 per cent), UK (10.81 per cent), Canada (4.63 per cent), Russian Federation (4.49 per cent), Australia (3.60 per cent), France (2.76 per cent), Germany (2.64 per cent), Malaysia (2.63 per cent), Sri Lanka (2.59 per cent), China (2.27 per cent), Japan (2.08 per cent), Republic of Korea (1.93 per cent), Afghanistan (1.86 per cent) and Nepal (1.59 per cent).
Union Ministry of Tourism compiles monthly estimates of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) and FTAs on e- Tourist Visa on the basis of Nationality-wise, Port-wise data received from Bureau of Immigration (BOI). The number of FTAs in January, 2018 was 10.66 lakh as compared to FTAs of 9.83 lakh in January, 2017 and 8.45 lakh in January, 2016. The growth rate in FTAs in January, 2018 over January, 2017 was 8.4 per cent, compared to 16.4 per cent in January, 2017 over January, 2016.
When it comes to the arrivals of foreign tourists at the international airports of India during January 2018,  Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport topped the list of 15 ports of the country with 28.03% per cent FTAs. It was followed by Mumbai Airport (17.47 per cent), Haridaspur Land Check Post (7.63 per cent), Chennai Airport (7.17 per cent), Goa (6.19 per cent), Bengaluru Airport (5.16 per cent), Kolkata Airport (4.81 per cent), Cochin Airport (3.77 per cent), Ahmadabad Airport (3.01 per cent), Hyderabad Airport (2.56 per cent), Gede Rail Land Check Post (1.82 per cent), Trivandrum Airport (1.56 per cent), Tiruchirapalli Airport (1.25 per cent), Ghojadanga Land Check Post (1.11 per cent) and Amritsar Airport (1.01 per cent).

Under e-Tourist Visa, in January, 2018, a total of 2.40 lakh foreign tourists arrived on e-Tourist Visa as compared to 1.52 lakh during the month of January, 2017 registering a growth of 58.5 per cent.  The percentage share of top 15 source countries availing e- Tourist Visa facilities during January, 2018 was as follows: UK (18.6 per cent), USA (10.6 per cent), Russian Fed (6.5 per cent), France (5.4 per cent), Canada (5.3 per cent), China (4.8 per cent), Australia (4.3 per cent), Germany (4.0%), Korea (3.9 per cent), Oman (3.4 per cent), Italy (2.4 per cent), Thailand (1.9 per cent), Israel (1.4 per cent), Netherlands (1.4 per cent) and South Africa (1.4 per cent).
The percentage share of top 15 ports in foreign tourist arrivals on e-Tourist Visa during January this year was as follows: New Delhi Airport (37.3 per cent), Mumbai Airport (19.6 per cent), Dabolim (Goa) Airport (12.4 per cent), Chennai Airport (7.2 per cent), Bengaluru Airport (5.7 per cent), Kochi Airport (5.2 per cent), Kolkata Airport (2.7 per cent), Hyderabad Airport (2.3 per cent), Trivandrum Airport (2.0 per cent), Ahmadabad Airport (1.6 per cent), Gaya Airport (0.9 per cent), Amritsar Airport (0.9 per cent), Calicut Airport (0.6 per cent), Tirchy Airport (0.6 per cent) and Jaipur Airport (0.4 per cent).
