The Hush Post: A lieutenant in the army, who had taken voluntary retirement 15 years ago in 2003 on medical grounds, turned a psycho killer when he mercilessly, without any instigation, bludgeoned six people to death. The gory incident took place in Haryana’s Palwal, 80 km from Delhi, in the wee hours of Tuesday. Within an hour, between 2:30 am and 3:30 am, the man, Naresh Dhankad, in his 40s and said to be mentally unstable, entered the local government hospital as seen in the CCTV footage. Using an iron road as his weapon, he is seen moving through a hospital corridor. Wearing a blue sweater and white trousers, as seen in the video released by the police, he is seen scouting for victims holding an iron rod and finds his first victim, a 35-year-old woman, who had come to attend to a relative. She was found stretched out outside the Intensive Care Unit on the first floor of the hospital.
The next three murders took place in rapid succession — the men were security guards and beggars who were found outside the hospital. The last victim was another security guard.
The police found all the dead bodies within a radius of two to three km and one of the murders took place near a police station. The people residing in the nearby houses were immediately cautioned not to venture out.
The police, who identified him from the CCTV footage, finally caught up with him in an area close to the hospital, Adarsh Nagar. According to reports, he tried to confront the policemen. However, the cops retaliated and managed to arrest him. He was first taken to the Civil Hospital in the district and later referred to a hospital in Faridabad. He has now been shifted to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital as his condition worsened.
The accused has been identified as Netrapal and is currently employed in the Irrigation Department, Haryana. A native of Faridabad, the accused lives in Omaxe City in Palwal.
