Student slipped into canal while taking selfies with his friends

The Hush Post: In another selfie-related accident a student died in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh after he slipped in a canal when he, accompanied by his friends, was taking selfies along the canal side. The incident that happened on Tuesday was reported on Monday by The Tribune.

The deceased has been identified as Pawan who along with his friends had gone on a picnic. While taking selifes Pawan slipped in the canal and was washed away by the strong water current. While the police are investigating the matter deceased Pawan’s father has blamed his three friends for the accident.

As per a 2016 report, India reported highest number of selfie-related deaths between 2014 and 2016. Over 70 people had died during that period while clicking selfies, the online edition the daily reported.

Meanwhile it is the third such incident in which a youth has lost his life in a selfie-related accident.

Earlier last week a youth was killed in a selfie-related accident after being hit by a bullet while taking a selfie with a firearm. The incident occurred when the deceased and his friend were taking selfie with a pistol in Delhi. The incident had happened in the Vijay Vihar locality of Delhi.  The deceased youth Vijay Singh (23) was taking selfies with one of his friends when the incident took place. Decease’s friend, identified as Monu, is stated to be absconding.

In a similar incident last week another 23-year-old  youth Prashant Chauhan had killed accidentally by his minor cousin while taking a selife.

Before that also in a similar selfie-related accident last week a teenager student of class 11 killed his cousin accidentally while posing with a pistol and clicking a selfie. The incident occurred in southeast Delhi’s Sarita Vihar.

The deceased was identified as Prashant Chauhan while his cousin is a 17-year-old boy. Chauhan had visited his uncle’s house in Delhi’s Sarita Vihar locality.

It was then that the 17-year-old boy managed to get a firearm of his father and he asked his cousin Chauhan to click a selfie of him while holding the weapon. While Chauhan was doing so, the firearm reportedly went-off and a bullet hit Chauhan, police sources said.

Chauhan was immediately taken to a hospital in a critical condition but the doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police sources said that minor boy’s father, a property dealer by profession, was not at home when the incident took place.
