The Hush Post, New Delhi: In his Budget speech Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on Thursday that agriculture and rural economy will be his focus this year. This came after the Cabinet approved the Union Budget for 2018-19. This Budget holds significance in view of the upcoming Assembly elections in eight states, three of them ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It is also being seen as a litmus test for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the next General Elections to be held next year.
The Budget could see new schemes for rural India and accelerated funding for existing programmes like MNREGA, rural housing, irrigation projects and insurance for crops.

*Rs200 crores for developing agri-market this year.
*Allocation in food processing doubled to Rs 1400 crores.
*Operation green allocation Rs 500 crores.
*Kisan Credit Cards to be extended to fisheries, animal husbandry.
*70 lakh farming jobs have been created this year, shows an independent study.
*Rs 1290-crore allocation for bamboo sector.
*Rs 10,000 crore for fisheries development fund and animal husbandry.
*Special scheme to address air pollution in National Capital Region (NCR).
* 8 crore rural women to get free LPG connections under Ujjwala Yojana.
*Rs 2000 crore allocation for toilets in 2018-19 fiscal.
*Udan will enhance regional connectivity by connecting 56 un-served airports in the country.
*AMRUT to supply water to all households across 500 cities in the country.
*Rs 5.97 lakh crore allocated for infrastructure spending in India.
*5 lakh WiFi hotspots to be set up in rural areas to provide easy Internet access.
*Women’s contribution reduced to 8.33% towards PF in the first 3 years for new EPF accounts… The government will contribute 12% of EPF contribution for new employees in all sectors for the next three years.
*One medical college per three parliamentary constituency.
*Integrated B.Ed programme for teachers.
*Houses for poor by 2022.
*Announce allocation of Rs. 56,619 crore for SC welfare and Rs. 39,135 crore for ST welfare.
