The Hush Post: The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Wednesday granted 10 weeks, which means two and a half months, more to the CBI for completing the investigation into the rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl from Kotkhai in July last year. The Director, CBI, filed an affidavit, in compliance to the court’s earlier order, explaining the progress of the investigation. CBI also filed another status report in a sealed cover.
During the course of hearing, the counsel for the CBI, sought some more time for investigation on the ground that the investigating agency was investigating the matter in detail and it required more time for this purpose.
Allowing the request of the CBI, a Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Sandeep Sharma listed the matter for hearing on March 28.
It was on July 12, 2017, that the High Court had taken suo motu cognizance of the matter based on the news reports published in the media. Thereafter on July 17, the state had filed an application, urging the court to direct the CBI to take over investigation in the incident.
