The Hush Post: Love-jihad is certainly a point of contention for the Bharatiya Janta Party. However, good news is they are happy, if something like love-dalit happens. In order to promote inter-caste marriages, the Central government will give Rs. 2.5 lakh as incentive to those tying nuptial knot with a Dalit. This means either of the newly-wed could be a Dalit and that would be enough for the Rs 2.5 lakh reward.
Earlier, there was a clause that the total income of the newly-wed couple should not exceed Rs. 5 lakh per year. But that clause has been spiked. From now onwards, there will be no income limit, one could be a crorepati already or a poor. This has been stated as per the letter by the social justice ministry’s Dr Ambedkar Foundation to various state governments. Also many lengthy procedures that required state governments to process requests have been cut.
As per the rule, the couple will get Rs. 1.5 lakh after the foundation clears the request for incentive to ‘enable them to settle immediately after marriage.’ An amount of Rs. 1 lakh will be deposited in their joint bank account but the amount would be withdrawable after a minimum period of three years.
The scheme was first launched in 2013. The government had then expected a much larger number of couples to come and benefit from the scheme. But it had also put a cap on the number of beneficiaries to 500 per annum.
