The Hush Post: The name of the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister has almost been decided, sources say. Like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, it has been decided by the centre. Sources say, the observers have been given the mandate that the choice should seem like a natural one by the 44 MLAs.
If one has a look at some of the past elections, particularly Haryana and Uttar Pradesh — both Manohar Lal Khattar and Yogi Adityanath were not the popular choices as Chief Ministerial candidates. They were the choices made by the centre, say insiders from the BJP. Come tomorrow, and the MLAs would be asked close to three-four questions about who should be the Chief Minister? These questions could also be the “either and or” kind of questions and the last being the likely choice of the respective MLA with a caveat that nothing will be discussed outside.
And in that respect the three to four options would be whether Prem Kumar Dhumal should be made the CM despite the loss? Whether Union Health Minister JP Nadda should be shifted to the state from the centre? Whether Jai Ram Thakur can be made the Chief Minister or Ajay Jamwal? Sources though say, the Bharatiya Janta Party has already decided on the chief minister’s name. They just want to create a happy situation, where the imposition of the name is made to look natural with the MLAs choice and later announce the name as chosen by them. When the news last came in, hectic parleys were on at Peterhoff with the MLAs. Notably, Dhumal sat in the midst of the two observers Nirmala Sitharaman and NS Tomar this led to speculations that he was still in the race. Importantly, Dhumal will turn 75 in another two years, the party’s so called age limit to step down from important legislative positions. However, the 2019 elections is what the Narendra Modi government is looking at and whether the man at the helm can help the party win all four parliamentary seats?
