Ludhiana: City based urologist and transplant surgeon Dr Baldev Singh Aulakh has been awarded Dr PN Kataria Memorial Oration award by the North Zone Urological Society of India at its annual conference held in Meerut. He has been conferred with the honour for excellence in the field for outstanding work.
Head of Transplant Unit and Professor of Urology at DMC, Ludhiana, Dr. Aulakh delivered a speech in which he elaborated how shortage of kidneys for transplant can be overcome by swapping, ABO incompatible transplant and organ donation after brain death of a patient.
Having been associated with field of urology and transplant surgery for the more than 25 years, Dr. Aulakh has more than 2000 kidney transplant surgeries to his credit. Some of these surgeries were first of their kind in India like the three legged pair of pant anastomosis (a connection made surgically between adjacent blood vessels, parts of the intestine, or other channels of the body) in donor with multiple arteries and operating a breast cancer patient for kidney donation.
