The Hush Post: In a major development the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to scrap the English Communicative (EC) course for Class 9 and 10 across the country. The CBSE has also decided to discontinue English Elective for Class 12 students and other four subjects.
The subject which shall not be part of Class 9 curriculum and subsequently from CBSE Class 10 Boards include – English Communicative (Paper Code 101), Information and Communication Technology (Paper code 166) and ePublishing and eOffice (Paper code 354 & 454).
For Class 12, the subjects scraped include – English Elective (Paper Code 101), Multimedia and Web Technology (Paper code 067) and Dance Mohiniyattam (Paper code 062).
The subject has been part of the course of CBSE Class 9 and 10th students for over a decade. The CBSE did not give any explanation for the decision in the circular that was issued.
With this decision, now the second option of English Language & Literature (ELL) has become the mandatory subject by default.
However, the board has also announced that Class 10 students of 2018-19 batch can take up English Communicative as their main subject if they have studied it in the current academic session, a report carried by the Times of India online edition of the daily said.
