The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad on Saturday detained a girl from Yerawada after an alert that she could be a suicide bomber in the valley during the Republic Day parade. However, it was later found out that she was in touch with a boy from Kashmir on a social networking site and wanted to marry him. She was found in Bijbehara in Kashmir from where the police picked her.
The investigations have so far revealed the girl was dropped by her mother in Kashmir about 15 days ago. The girl was pursuing a course in nursing and was in touch with ISIS. Now the girl is being de-radicalised by an NGO, Muslim clerics and her parents.
The girl in her statement to the ATS has said that she wanted to carry out terrorist acts and was keen on joining the ISIS. Munir Khan, the ADGP, Kashmir range said that they investigated the case and reached the conclusion that it was important to detain the girl. ISIS is specially looking for nursing or para-medic students to enroll in their cadres who can work with their medical corp.
