The Hush Post: The official residence of the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh ‘Oak over’ received its new incumbent on the last day of the year, ringing in the new year with novelty and hope.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur entered the Oak Over with his wife Sadhana Thakur and two daughters, personal staff members and other administrative staff. A havan was held and prayers were done at the shiv mandir inside the sprawling complex.
The PWD had a tough time refurbishing ‘Oak Over’ as it was misused by Congress party workers in the run-up to the Assembly polls who left it in a deplorable condition. The carpets, upholstery and other possessions were in an ugly state and needed immediate change, according to sources.
After the oath taking ceremony, the chief minister had been residing in Peterhoff, earlier he lived in the MLA hostel flat in the Vidhan Sabha complex. Interestingly, he had directed the officials not to make many changes negating the usual trend of spending crores in sprucing up government bungalows for new appointees. The CM’s official residence was used minimally as former CM Virbhadra Singh lived in his own house ‘Holly Lodge’.
