The Hush Post: He had a fake ID in place, a secret mobile number and of course a code name- Khadoos-Khadoos. Former Registrar (recruitment) of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Balwinder Kumar Sharma, who has been arrested in connection with the HCS (Judicial) exam paper leak, had meticulously planned his ‘affair’ with Sunita (main accused in the judicial paper leak case), but he didn’t know that he had fallen into a honey trap.

The chargesheet filed by the SIT of the UT police has bit-by-bit exposed Sharma and his ‘intimate’ relationship with Sunita. Both knew each other since 2014 and were in touch with each other till August 2017, the police claims.

According to the chargesheet, Balwinder Kumar Sharma had acquired a secret mobile number (8360753268) and used it to chat with Sunita. This SIM was procured on the name of one Ashish of Mohali, who handed it to Sunita’s roommate Ayushi. She forwarded it to Sunita and then it reached Sharma.

Balwinder Sharma used this number and registered an ID with a name of Khadoos-Khadoos on Uber App. He used this ID to book around 8 trips between Januaray 23, 2017 to April 1, 2017. Every time the cab was called to Punjab and Haryana High Court and the destination was Sector-18 temple. Sunita used to stay here.

Similarly, Balwinder Sharma had an OLA ID in place with the name of Deepak Goyal. He used an OLA cab 4 times from the court to the Sector-18 temple.

The chargesheet also states that the two often went on an ‘outing’ together. In December 2016 they went to Brahmsarovar in Kurukshetra for the first time. Then they went to the same place in March, April, May and June 2017 and stayed at a government Guest House.

They stopped using their personal numbers in February 2017 and started using secret numbers. Sunita had a secret number procured on the name of Naresh Sharma, a flower vendor who sat outside the temple. When the paper leak case was registered, both destroyed their phones and threw them into a bin.

During the interrogation, the Registrar had stated that he had gone along with his wife to Kurukshetra, but the police found out that his wife was in Chandigarh, busy teaching her students in a school. Her mobile tower location was also traced in Chandigarh, while the locations of the two were found to be in Kurukshetra.

Meanwhile, an auto-rickshaw driver, Varinder also acted as a conduit between Balwinder and Sunita. Varinder came into contact with Sunita when she once hired his auto. She promised him a job of a peon and introduced him to Balwinder Sharma. Sunita often called him to Sector 18, and she used to hand him fruits and tiffin which were delivered at Sharma’s residence in Sector-24. Varinder has confessed that Sharma used his mobile to contact Sunita from his home.  Sunita, the alleged mastermind of the leak, was arrested by the SIT in November.

Balwinder, who had the custody of the question papers and the answer key till a day after the exams. At the sametime, the question papers were packed and locked  safely in the presence of the judges of recruitment committee. From the conversation between Sushila, who was one of the culprits, and Suman, the complainant, it was fair to judge that Sushila had a copy of the paper. Sushila and her alleged co-conspirator Sunita were students with not very good academic track record, and had never qualified any judicial exam, except for this one in which they topped. Initially, Balwinder refused to accept he knew Sunita, but 760 calls between them nailed the lie. About these calls he could not give any fair explanation.
