The Hush Post, Ludhiana: The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation elections and by-polls for 27 wards elsewhere will be held on February 24. The nominations to the elections will begin February 8 onwards. As per the poll schedule, the counting of votes for Ludhiana MC will be on February 27. The counting in the wards of other local bodies, in which by-polls are to be held, will be on the day of the polling which happens to be February 24.
From now, 50 per cent wards would be reserved for women and 14 wards for Schedule Caste candidates in Ludhiana. Two wards would be reserved for Backward Class (BC). The wards 1, 3, 5 and all the odd numbered wards till 95 will be reserved for women while the rest would be open for men candidates. The population in no ward will exceed 50,000.The minimum population per ward would be 15,000 while the maximum would be 50,000.
Earlier, the elections to the local bodies of Amritsar, Patiala and Jalandhar were held in the month of December. Post-delimitation, Ludhiana MC has 95 wards, up by 20 wards from last elections which took place in 2012.
