The Hush Post, Ludhiana: The Municipal Corporation election in Amritsar, Jalandhar and Patiala are likely to be held in December mid. The likely dates for the polls are between December 18 and 20. However, the elections for the Ludhiana MC could be stalled by another two months. Sources say that the elections for the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana would be held in February.
The reason for the delay is that the draft for delimitation of wards has not been finalised in Ludhiana unlike Jalandhar, Patiala and Amritsar. Notably, in the upcoming Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, there are going to be 95 wards, which are 20 wards more than the present number. Also another reason for the delay is that the Congress MLAs were not in line with the local bodies department regarding delimitation apart from also the fact that the development work too has not satisfied these MLAs. Sources say, elections are being delayed because the development work for various projects for which Rs 137 crore had been sanctioned in mid-October finishes.
Another reason for delay was that the Lok Insaaf Party MLAs, Simarjeet Bains and Balwinder Bains had objected to the draft notification for ward delimitation. They had threatened to move court. After this, the department again started verification of population in different wards.
