The Hush Post: Killing a pet can land you up in jail. A man was arrested by the Punjab Police after a video went viral of him shooting his pet dog dead. The accused Satbir Singh, was later released on bail, claimed that the pet was ‘not stable and imbalanced for the past two days’ which is why it had to be shot.
The accused and his friend were detained after Fauna Police, an animal rights organisation, wrote to Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi, Punjab Director General of Police Sumedh Singh Saini, and the Animal Welfare Board of India demanding action. A report in a national daily quoted Satbir Singh as saying that the dog was fiercely biting for the last two days and had attacked his buffalo. Further, resting his case, he said that the animal had become extremely dangerous for his children. He also said that he had no idea as to who uploaded the video on the social media.
Meanwhile, the body of the dog has been sent for post mortem to a veterinary hospital in Barnala. The doctors have taken the samples of dog’s liver, kidney, spleen and heart to ascertain whether it was unstable or not. Medics say that the brain sample of the dog will be sent to Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University for further clarification on the claims made by the accused.
