The Hush Post, Chandigarh: Former Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tiwari’s mother Dr Amrit Tiwari passed away last night after a prolonged illness. She was 80. She will be cremated in Chandigarh on Monday. When the news of her demise came Manish was in Bhuvneshwar. He is expected to reach Chandigarh on Sunday evening. Dr Tiwari was the head of Dental Department, PGI, Chandigarh. The Government of India awarded her the Padma Shri in 1992. She was the first person to be selected as the Life member of the Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry (ISPPD) and was also a Fellow of the Indian Dental Association and the National Academy of Medical Sciences. She was also former member of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. Her husband late Dr VN Tiwari was member, Rajya Sabha and Head, Department of Punjabi, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Manish’s father was killed by militants in 1984.
