The Hush Post: Further bolstering the dominance of Indian professionals in the international IT circuit, Parag Agrawal, an IIT Bombay alumnus, has been appointed as the new Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of micro-blogging site, Twitter. Parag has his PhD in computer science from the prestigious Stanford University, USA.
Though Parag was working on the post since the last six months, Twitter made an official announcement this Thursday. Parag replaces Adam Messinger, who left in late 2016 after being at the helm of affairs for five years.
Parag had joined Twitter in October 2011 as an ads engineer. Prior to joining Twitter, Parag did his research internships at Microsoft, Yahoo and AT&T.
At Twitter, Parag used artificial intelligence (AI) to increase the relevance of tweets in Twitter users’ timelines.
“In his capacity as CTO, he’s focused on scaling a cohesive machine learning and AI approach across our consumer and revenue product and infrastructure teams,” the CNBC quoted a Twitter spokesman.
Parag would also be working on consumer and revenue products in his new role.
According to media reports, growth is a matter of major concern for Twitter and that comes at a time when the number of users is on a decline in the US.
