The Hush Post: In a first, an Indian-Punjabi origin woman has been appointed as cabinet minister in Ontario Province. Harinder Kaur Malhi has been appointed as the Cabinet Minister in Ontario province of Canada. She is the first MPP of Indian-Punjabi origin to be appointed as minister. She has been given the charge of Minister for Women Status. Malhi is the daughter of former Canadian MP Gurbakhsh Singh Malhi. Malhi was elected in 2014 from Brampton—Springdale. Ancestrally, Malhi hails from Chugha Kalan village of Moga, Punjab.
It was due to Malhi’s efforts that the Ontario province in Canada passed a motion in the Assembly officially terming the 1984 anti-Sikh riots as “Sikh genocide”.
