The Hush Post: The region has been connected to Bangkok. Monday saw the first such flight to Bangkok. Sources say, there is already a heavy rush of bookings for Christmas and New Years’ eve in Bangkok. Yesterday’s flight brought 32 passengers from Suvarnabhumi International airport Bangkok to the city while 117 passengers took the same flight back for business and tourism purpose. The return ticket for the flight is Rs.17,000. The flight runs three days a week. This is the third flight to a foreign destination from Chandigarh. The other two flights connect Chandigarh to Sharjah and Dubai.
The flights are available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The flight takes off at 2:00 pm and reaches Bangkok at 8:15 pm. From Bangkok it takes off at 5:40 in the morning and reaches Chandigarh at 9:20 am. There are a total of 162 seats in this flight. As of now, there are 27 flights taking off from the International airport in the tricity. At the domestic level, Chandigarh is connected with Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Bengaluru, Leh, Jammu and Srinagar.
Passengers, who took the first flight, said it was a need for business as well as tourism purposes. Isra Stapanaseth, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand, New Delhi, said there has been an increase of Indian tourist traffic in Thailand this year. In the nine months this year, between January and September, we have already received 1.2 million tourists from India, which is a 16 per cent increase.” Stapanaseth said the flight would make travelling more convenient for people coming from the region.
