NURSES AT LADY HARDINGE CONTINUE TO BE ON STRIKE, REFUSE TO STEP BACK

Riya Dixit, The Hush Post, Delhi: The nursing staff of lady Hardinge Hospital, Connaught Place is on strike for the past five days due to the termination of staff members without giving any further extension.

The staff members used to be retrenched every six month, though the hospital authorities have denied it. “Thirty-six of our staff members have been terminated by the hospital authority till 20th November, so we are protesting against this decision of the authorities,” said one of the nursing staff.

“We are the nursing staff of the hospital. For the past two years, all the staff members are absorbed on  a six-month contract which the authorities extend after its expiry. Already the ministry has ordered the extension of 245 members of the staff but the authorities are not willing to take any step regarding this. Hence, because the orders of the ministry are not being obeyed, we are trying to contact the authorities but no one is coming forward to address the issue. We have tried our best to settle the things but nothing worked so we decided to go on hunger strike” said Bhupendra Singh, nursing staff.

However, one of the doctors reported that the staff is appointed on the basis of six or three months contract and the hospital authorities have the right to terminate them after the specified time period.
