The Hush Post: The day three play resumed at 74/5 for India on another cloudy day at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Lahiru Gamage got his first breakthrough in the morning, when he foxed Cheteshwar Pujara for 52 runs. This was Pujara’s sixteenth 50. The new man to join Saha was Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja and Saha looked comfortable and hit the Lankan bowlers for a few boundaries before Dilruwan Perera struck and Jadeja had to depart. He made 22. Within minutes Saha too followed Jadeja into the pavilion out for 29 as India’s scoreboard was 128 for seven. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Shami added another 18 runs before Bhuvneshwar was sent home by Suranag Lakmal for 13 runs. Sri Lanka bowled out India for 172 runs.After lunch, Bhuvneshwar Kumar drew the first blood, sending back Dimuth Karunaratne for 8 runs when the Sri Lankan score was 28. Six runs later, at 34 Bhuvneshwar struck again dismissing Samarawickrama.
For the third wicket, India had to wait for another 99 runs when Umesh ended Lahiru Thirimanne’s innings at 51. Thirimanne made his fifth half century. Four runs later, Yadav dismissed a well-settled Angelo Mathews for 52 runs. This was Mathews’ 28th half-century. At the end of day three, Sri Lanka were 165/4, still seven runs behind India. With two more days to go, the match seems wide open for a result.
