The Hush Post: The Lucknow administration and security officials had a strange problem to handle today morning. There were potatoes strewn all over in the VIP areas of the city including outside Chief Minister Aditya Yoginath’s residence, outside Raj Bhawan which houses Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik and in front of the state assembly building. The potatoes were supposedly thrown at different places in the city on Friday night.

Farmers, however, said it was a symbolic protest against the government and its policies. Farmers are angry at their crops being wasted  as they are getting support price of  Rs 3-4 a kg from the ‘mandis’. The Yogi Adityanath government had fixed Rs 487 a quintal as the minimum support price for potato. Farmers are demanding Rs 10 a kg which amounts to Rs 1,000 a quintal.

Chief minister Adityanath promised to look into their grievances, saying a group of ministers could be formed to examine and resolve farm problems. Hinting at a political conspiracy Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi said the potatoes thrown on the roads were of poor quality. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lucknow Deepak Kumar told the media that the vehicles of the farmers, who were involved in throwing potatoes have been identified and that they would be acted upon.
