The Hush Post: Rail access to sea ports of Gujarat and Mumbai seems to be a new year gift from the government to regional traders in Punjab. The Punjab State Warehousing Corporation (PSWC) and Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) today inked an agreement to equip, operate, manage, maintain and market the Container Freight Station (CFS) facility at Dappar near Mohali railway station.The agreement, to commence from January 1, will provide direct rail access to regional traders of Punjab to the sea ports of Gujarat and Mumbai. It will help in safe, efficient and secure mode of transportation of goods in containers and will also reduce the transportation cost of goods. Spacious godowns for storage of import/export cargoes at Dappar and Customs Clearance of goods at the Dappar dry port will be provided.
After implementation of GST, Dappar is viewed to play major role in warehousing sector, which is poised for an enormous expansion in the state. Additional Managing Director PSWC, Chandigarh Harsuhinderpal Singh Brar and Director (International Marketing) CONCOR, New Delhi, Sanjay Swarup were present to ink the deal. The agreement was signed in the presence of Viswajeet Khanna Additional Chief Secretary, Punjab.
