PUSU LEADERS TO FACE TRIAL FOR ATTEMPT TO MURDER & RIOTING AT PU CAMPUS

The Hush Post: Two leaders of PUSU and four others arrested for allegedly firing eight rounds at a fashion show in Punjab University on April 8, 2016, will face trial for attempt to murder and rioting.

A district court here on Tuesday framed charges against former Punjab president of PUSU Resham Godara, former campus president of the organisation Navaldeep Singh, Amrik Singh aka Vicky, Mander Singh aka  Kabal Singh, Susham Nonia, and Randeep Singh Khrode aka SK 27. The six of them have been brought from Nabha jail where they are currently lodged. Charges against one more accused Gurpreet Singh, currently lodged in Kaputhala jail, will be framed on December 15.

The FIR says that Harwinder and his accomplices entered the law auditorium of Panjab University, where a fashion show was on, and started creating ruckus. When complainant Manpreet Singh Aulakh, then campus president of Students’ Organisation of India (SOI) and his friends opposed it, the accused assaulted Aulakh with iron rods, and a baseball bat. He was also fired at and was subsequently received an injury to his leg.

The prime accused, Harwinder Singh, is still at large. Harwinder is also accused of the murder of sarpanch Satnam Singh in Sector 38 (West) on April 9 this year. Apart from attempt to murder and rioting with deadly weapon, the court has also framed charges under sections 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly in prosecution of common object), and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the IPC and sections 25, 27, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act.
