The Hush Post: Starting his political career as a student leader from Uttar Pradesh, a 30-year old Congress member and a die-hard Rahul Gandhi fan, Anwar Hussain has been getting noticed for his unique initiatives supporting Congress President Rahul Gandhi over the years.Hussain, a resident of Gorakhpur, has launched several products themed on the Gandhi scion — Rahul Milk, Rahul herbal Tea, Rahul Roses, even Rahul Onions. In 2014, he distributed ‘Rahul Milk’ in response to BJP’s ‘Chai pe Charcha’. In 2016, after demonetisation, Hussain distributed ‘Rahul Herbal Tea’ to people waiting in long queues outside banks and ATM booths. The same year, he pasted posters showing Rahul as ‘Singham’. When onion prices soared, he sold ‘Rahul Onions’ at Rs 5 per kilogram. Ahead of UP elections this year, Hussain distributed ‘Rahul Roses’ to voters. Hussain has a picture gallery dedicated to Rahul at his house and his coffee mug bears the party chief’s photo. Hussain led campaigns where party workers wrote letters in blood, and even faced FIRs for his love for Rahul.
His efforts have not gone unrewarded either, he is now Congress’ district general secretary in Gorakhpur. Hussain joined the Congress in 2005 after being bowled over by Rahul Gandhi, who attended a Youth Congress meeting in Gorakhpur that year. The Congress party is at an all-time low with only 44 LS seats and only five states having Congress governments and needs more of these ‘jabra’ fans.
