The Hush Post: Punjab Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh‘s resignation has been accepted . He had submitted his resignation on Monday to the Chief Minister of Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh. It has been accepted today.
Rana Gurjit was in the midst of controversy after it came to light that the sandmine contracts in Nawanshahr were allocated to a firm in which his employee was a partner. The IndianExpress had earlier quoted Rana Gurjit as saying, “Yes, I have resigned. Now it is up to the CM and the party high command to take further action.”
Rana Gurjit’s employee Amit Bahadur is a working partner in a firm called Rajbir Enterprises. This was partly funded by a contractor who was jailed in December and whose arrest led to the information about the complete wrongdoing and as it happened.
The Punjab CM, Capt Amarinder Singh was to meet Sunil Jakhar, the Punjab Congress president and Asha Kumari, who is the AICC secretaries and also Congress president Rahul Gandhi before taking a decision.
Earlier, the CM had ordered a Commission of Inquiry headed by Justice (retd) J S Narang last year. As a result of that inquiry Rana Gurjit Singh had got a clean chit.
