Earlier, Army Chief Bipin Rawat flew to Jammu to met senior commanding officers to review the situation. No firing was reported in the night and the focus was on evacuation of people from the family quarters. Yesterday, a group of heavily armed Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists intruded into the camp through a sewer line and attacked the 36 brigade of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry in the vee hours yesterday, which resulted in a gun battle.
Intel sources said the attack on Army’s residential complex is a doing of Jaish-e-Mohammad. It coincided with the fifth anniversary of the hanging of Afzal Guru, a convict in the 2001 Parliament attack by Jaish, on Friday. Soldiers and their family members were asleep when the terrorists opened indiscriminate fire.
