The Hush Post: About five candidates in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections won by a very narrow margin and would just have to thank their stars and Lady Luck for being on their side, and may be those few extra steps they would have taken up the hills to may be a solitary dwelling. The narrowest margin was of Jagat Singh Negi (Congress ) from the reserved Kinnaur constituency where he defeated his rival Tejwant singh Negi of the BJP by a margin of just 120 votes. Inder Dutt Lakhanpal (Congress) was declared winner by a margin of 439 votes defeating Baldev Sharma of the BJP from Barsar. Kasauli’s BJP candidate Rajiv Saizal defeated Congress ’s Vinod Sultanpuri by 442 votes. He is the son of late KD Sultanpuri, a six time Member of Parliament from Lok Sabha.Asha Kumari, a Congress heavyweight won by a margin of just 556 votes from her nearest rival from BJP DS Thakur in Dalhousie. Sitting Congress MLA and a minister in the Virbhadra government Col Dhani Ram Shandil defeated his son-in- law Rajesh Kashyap by a margin of 671 votes. Not to forget, Congress stalwart and Virbhadra’s adversary G S Bali who lost to a younger candidate Arun Kumar from the BJP by just 1,000 votes.
