THREE ARMYMEN OF 36 RR GO MISSING AFTER AVALANCHE STRIKES ARMY POST IN GUREZ

The Hush Post: Three soldiers were missing after an avalanche, triggered by heavy snowfall, fell on a forward post in Gurez sector in Bandipora, Jammu and Kashmir. The three armymen are from 36 Rashtriyia Rifles who are camping in Bagtore area of Gurez. The avalanche hit an Army post at Baktoor near the Line of Control in Gurez sector during the intervening night. According to the police, at least three soldiers were reported missing after the avalanche struck. Efforts are being made to trace the missing armymen, but due to incessant snowfall the rescue and search operations are not giving results. An Army porter is also missing since yesterday after he came under an avalanche in Tulail in Gurez sector.

Earlier this year in January, 10 soldiers of Army’s 51 RR unit stationed at Neeru village were killed when two avalanches struck the army post and patrol party. Gurez sector is known for high casualties due to avanlanches.
