The Hush Post, New Delhi: To ensure there is no rebellion in the party, Aam Aadmi Party chose two outsiders ND Gupta and Sushil Gupta as party’s nominees for the Rajya Sabha elections. This is apart from Sanjay Singh’s name, the top party functionary. The Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia announced their names after a meeting of the party’s Political Affairs Committee. The elections will take place on January 16.
ND Gupta is a noted chartered accountant and former president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India while Sushil Gupta is a businessman and social activist. It is being believed that AAP is set to win all the three RS seats presently represented by Congress since it has a landslide majority in the 70 member assembly.
The name of Kumar Vishwas, who fought MP elections against Rahul Gandhi from Amethi did not come up in discussion. Vishwas, however, said the reason his name did not come up was because he spoke the truth which the party could not digest.
Sushil Gupta is a crorepati and also claims that he is an agriculturist and social activist. In 2013 he contested assembly polls on Congress ticket from Moti Nagar seat, Recently he resigned from the Congress. Sushil Gupta’s total assets are valued at Rs 164 crore. Another candidate, ND Gupta is an expert on GST and has written many books on accountancy and business. However, it is important to note out that MLAs did not disagree with party’s choices in the meeting.
The party had also thought on the possibility of picking three persons from among party functionaries but consensus could not be reached on anybody’s name except for Sanjay Singh.
The MLAs who participated in the meeting at CM residence did not make any comments in the media. “We accept the choices of the party,” a couple of MLAs have said.
