New Delhi, The Hush Post: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s LIC agent Anand Chauhan on Friday got a ten-day interim bail. Chauhan, through his counsel, had moved a plea seeking 15 days’ interim bail before the court for attending the marriage ceremony of his niece. The special CBI court allowed interim bail to Chauhan for ten days to attend the marriage ceremony at Shimla on Nov 26.He was arrested in July last year under Prevention of Money Laundering by the Enforcement Directorate. Recently, the Supreme Court has struck down Section 45 of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) which bars bail to the accused under the Act. Chauhan was denied bail on previous occasions because Section 45 of PMLA Act did not permit it. Chauhan’s counsel, however applied for bail for the purpose of attending the marriage.
The ED on September 9, 2017 has filed a chargesheet against LIC agent Anand Chauhan in a money laundering case involving Virbhadra Singh and others. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had alleged before the court that during Chauhan’s interrogation, it was found that as an LIC agent he had entered into a modus operandi to launder disproportionate assets by investing in LIC policies. Chauhan was the first and last arrest in connection with its money laundering case against Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh.
