The Hush Post: If robots can perform in operation theatres, go into space, can labour it out in factory units, pick up erasers and sharpeners for kids in school, make pizzas, deliver food at homes, catering to customers in a restaurant is an easy job. The news is that its happening in India. A restaurant in Chennai now employs robot waiters to serve food to its customers. The restaurant ‘Robot’ built around a robot theme with neon lights and robot displays has faceless robots gliding around the restaurant and bringing food orders to the tables.
The four robot waiters have been imported from China with the restaurant owners taking a 15-day course to learn how to operate them. They are battery-operated and can be controlled through sensors. They are programmed in such a way that they know which dish has to go to which table, they also stop if someone or something blocks their path.
The robots can not take orders from customers yet. Each table has an iPad through which customers place their own orders, which are automatically sent over to the kitchens. Once the food is ready, it is brought to the tables by one of the four robots. The robots are a hit with kids and also a top selfie attraction.
