The Hush Post: While the absence of key speakers like Sitaram Yechury, Sharad Yadav, Mayawati among others will be felt in the Rajya Sabha, debut appearance of BJP president Amit Shah today in the portals of the Rajya Sabha will be closely watched by those present in the Parliament and those outside it. He was elected as the member of the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat in August this year. Amit Shah has been allotted a front row seat of the treasury benches in the Rajya Sabha along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Amit Shah will be occupying the seat held by M Venkaiah Naidu till he was elected as the Vice-President. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi, leader of the House Arun Jaitley, Shah will be the third in hierarchy in the Rajya Sabha. Shah has been a five-term MLA in the Gujarat Assembly. The notification for the new seating arrangements have been issued by the Rajya Sabha secretariat for the new members. Amit Shah’s seat is on the other side of the aisle from Prime Minister Modi and BJP’s leader of the house, Arun Jaitley.
Sitaram Yechury did not get a third term as Rajya Sabha MP as the CPM allows only two consecutive terms, Yadav was disqualified after the JD(U) petitioned to the Rajya Sabha Chairman while Mayawati will not be seen in the Rajya Sabha as she resigned during the last session of Parliament in July this year alleging her voice was being muzzled in the House. Her front row seat was occupied by BSP leader Satish Mishra and Yechury’s front row seat has been allotted to his partyman TK Rangarajan.
