Guru Har Sahai couple writes to PM Modi either to provide a job to anyone from the family or death for all
The Hush Post, Guru Har Sahai (Ferozepur): Worried about the fate of their three differently-abled children, a destitute couple in Guru Har Sahai of Ferozepur has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi either to grant them a government job or euthanasia for the entire family. Manohar Lal and Shahi Bala’s two sons and a daughter are physically challenged and the couple is deeply concerned about their children’s future.
Manohar Lal’s elder son Gagan (33) and younger son Ankush (24) were not born with physical disability but were rendered disabled as they grew older. Their daughter Nishu (28) was born disabled. They can’t move their hands and legs, have no control over their bodies, can’t speak and can’t listen properly.
On top of it, the family’s extremely poor financial conditional has made their treatment almost impossible.
A resident of Aadarsh Nagar in Guru Har Sahai, Manohal Lal had married Shashi Bala 35 years ago. The couple runs a Tiffin service which hardly meets their expenses. A little help from relatives occasionally chips in. The couple is worried as to what would happen to the children when they are no more. They have written to the Prime Minister seeking a job for anyone from the family or euthanasia for all.
Manohar says that he tried everything he could, but in vain. Both the parents have been spoon-feeding, bathing, washing and taking care of the children since the last three decades. The youngest can drive a tricycle and has completed 11th standard.
A distraught Manohar says he has appealed umpteen times to the government and the administration, but his pleas failed to cut any ice with the authorities. Though in 2016, the administration had taken note of his plea and directed the Guru Har Sahai SDM to grant him a loan but the move hasn’t gathered momentum since then.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Ramvir has said that he came to know about the case only after the media highlighted it. He has assured all possible help to the family.
