The Hush Post: In a case of honour killing, Sonepat court has sentenced three persons, including a couple, to life imprisonment for killing their daughter. The court of additional district & sessions judge Sunita Grover also imposed a fine of fifteen thousand rupees each on the convicts. The court passed its order 20 months after the incident was reported.
While reading out the judgement, ASJ Sunita Grover said that there wasn’t enough evidence to hand death penalty to the convicts. She said that they had committed a heinous crime and no lenience can be expected as it would send a wrong message to the society.
The matter had come into light in July 2016 when the chowkidar of village Kilohadad informed the Sadar police. The deceased victim, a D.Ed. student, had an affair with a local youth, which her parents were opposed to. The convicts had poisoned her and locked her up in a room till she succumbed to poisoning. The three had also conducted her last rites without informing anybody following which the police had collected forensic evidence from the crematorium. Girl’s father Manoj, mother Sunita and maternal uncle Jitendra were arrested by the police and had confessed to the crime. The accused were held guilty by the court last Wednesday.
