The Hush Post: Bombay High Court has issued summons to cricketer HHosselin had filed a USD 15 million defamation suit in December 2017 against the cricketer and his friends claiming that their “false complaint” cost him his job.arbhajan Singh in defamation case filed by a former expat pilot with the Jet Airways, Bernd Hosselin. The summons was sent to his Jalandhar and Chandigarh addresses. It was delivered in Jalandhar bur since no one was present at this Sector-9 residence in Chandigarh the summons was pasted on the entrance.
The High Court has asked Harbhajan and his friends Pooja Gujaral and Jatinder Singh Shah to appear before the court on June 12, 2018. The summons mentions that if the three or their lawyer fails to turn up on the said date, the court may pass an ex-parte judgment.
Bernd Hosselin, a German, was accused of making “racist” comments on a Chandigarh-Mumbai flight by Harbhajan Singh in April 2017, following which Jet Airways had terminated the pilot. Singh had alleged that Hosselin “assaulted” a woman passenger and hurled “racial abuse” at another, besides abusing a physically challenged man on the flight.
In retaliation, Hosselin had filed a USD 15 million defamation suit in December 2017 against the cricketer and his friends claiming that their “false complaint” cost him his job. Hosselin has also sent a defamation notice to his former employer Jet Airways.
“We believe Jet Airways has terminated my client under pressure. Moreover, my client is virtually unemployed because of these incorrect allegations,” Hosselin’s lawyer had said then. The pilot had claimed that he was performing his duty as wheelchairs are not allowed inside the plane and it was causing inconvenience to the other passengers.
According to a report published by Firstpost.com on June 17, 2017, the former India player was not on the flight where the alleged incident took place and had tweeted about it after coming to know of it from a Facebook post.
In a series of tweets, the cricketer had condemned the incident as “disgraceful”. “So called this Bernd Hoesslin a pilot with @jetairways called my fellow Indian (u bloody Indian get out of my flight) while he is earning here,” he wrote. “Not only was he a racist, but physically assaulted a lady and abused a physically challenged man.” “Strict action must b taken &such things should not be allowed or tolerated in r country”, he had said in another tweet.
