Lawyer from Mumbai held for killing unborn child by assaulting pregnant wife

The victim complained the Colaba Police in Mumbai’s that her husband had assaulted her due to which she lost her 11-week-old foetus

The Hush Post: In a gory incident, a lawyer in Mumbai allegedly assaulted his pregnant wife which resulted in the death of the unborn child. The accused lawyer has been arrested by the Mumbai’s Colaba police.

The 30-year-old lawyer allegedly assaulted his pregnant wife and it caused the death of their unborn child, police said. The victim woman has complained the matter to police in Colaba locality in south Mumbai earlier this week. The victim said in her complaint that her lawyer husband recently assaulted her, as a result of which she lost her 11-week-old foetus, a report said.

The victim, a native of New Delhi and is also a practicing lawyer, married the man a few months back and shifted to Colaba in Mumbai, it was reported.

After their marriage, the couple started having frequent fights, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-I) Manoj Kumar Sharma reportedly said.

The victim said her husband had been pressurising her to abort the child for some time, because he held superstitious beliefs and had also threatened her with dire consequences, DCP Sharma reportedly said.

On the basis of her complaint, the accused was arrested on Tuesday. He has been booked in a case under the charges of IPC sections 315 (act with an intent to prevent child being born alive or to cause it to die after birth), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation), the police osaid.

The accused was produced in a court after which he was taken into police custody for two days, the report said.
